The newly refurbished surgical registrars room at Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) in Suva was officially opened by Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete, marking a significant step forward in supporting Fiji’s healthcare professionals. The renovation was made possible through the corporate social responsibility efforts of the Tanoa Hotel Group, with the generous contribution of the Reddy Foundation.
Dr. Waqainabete reflected on the growth in the healthcare workforce over the years, noting that the number of doctors has tripled, and the need for a modern, spacious facility to accommodate them has never been more pressing. He stated,
“In 2005 we had 299 Doctors and 1600 nurses and as I speak we now have more than 1000 doctors and more than 3000 nurses. Back then I was returning from New Zealand and had embarked on being a consultant. One bed and one chair was sufficient then because we only had 299 doctors. With this support, I am happy to see that we have tripled the beds and chairs which is in keeping with the demand at this time...This is a resource that everyone will use. We have got a wonderful room and we hope our registrars will make use of it. Thank you once again to the Tanoa Group of Hotels and the Reddy Foundation for making it happen.”
This newly refurbished space will serve as a crucial resource for the growing number of health professionals at CWM, ensuring they have the necessary environment to deliver excellent care to the people of Fiji.
