Auckland Special Children's Christmas

In 1998, something rather extraordinary began in New Zealand.

A small group of people decided that children living with illness, disability or challenging life circumstances deserved more than understanding, they deserved joy. That year, the very first Special Children's Christmas Party was held, creating a space where kids could step out of their everyday reality and into a day made entirely for them.

"These kids live with ill-health, disability, challenging home circumstances 24/7. They can't switch it on and off when they wany. Regardless of their situation, kids are kids. They want to go out and have fun. To be kids. Our parties make a huge difference. It's the small things that make a difference to these children."

We are proud to support an initiative that creates something rare and powerful; a place where children aged 3 to 12 can feel completely welcome exactly as they are. For many families who attend, this day creates a space of connection with similar families at one of the most stressful times of the year, which brings an undeniable amount of joy and understanding.
